A visit to the Library..

I took a visit to the State Library of NSW on Friday afternoon and took a look at some of the past PIP''s of outstanding calibre that are available for viewing there.
It was a REALLY great experience to have a look through them all as it really made it clear what goes into making an excellent PIP.
I got a few ideas and I feel it's another step closer towards the final product!!

More Research Material.....

I was reading the Australian Newspaper on the weekend and in their Arts review section they had a great review of "Letter to a Christian Nation" by Sam Harris. A book which has been out for a while now but it's about to get an Australian release.

In a very brief overview "Letter to a Christian Nation" is a book addressed to the United States and it brings forth the argument of why Christian Religion should have no place in the modern world. It provides for some great points that will be useful as they seem to feature a more ethical and emotional standpoint rather than just a scientific one which is what Richard Dawkins mostly focuses on in the God Delusion.

I have kept a copy of the Review in the Australian to scan in so I can feature it here on the blog as a resource lead.

Refining a BIG Idea....

I could ponder for a lifetime the many different theories and ideas on what life would be like without the existence of Religion on a global scale but a lifetime to philosophise I do not have when it comes to my society and culture PIP report!
Therefore I know I need to take a very big idea and reign it in to a place where it applies to the community directly around me, Where I can collect a considerable amount of primary data though interviews, surveys and discussions. as well as making the concept more tangible in regards to the content.
I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to do this and It will require further discussion with Brooke in Class but at least I feel I'm making more progress than I was a week ago,
Once I can work out the confines or lack of them for my report I know I'll really be able to run with it.

From humble beginnings.....

So here are the basic beginnings of my 2007 personal interest project for my studies in "Society and Culture" for the HSC. I had been flirting with many ideas of what I could do my PIP on over the last 48 hours but nothing had jumped out at me until today when I started to think about "GOD" and religion and I thought back to an amazing book I read recently called "The God Delusion" by acclaimed Oxford Biologist Richard Dawkins.

Not only are the ideas that are featured in "The God Delusion" extremely fitting for discussions and observations within Society and Culture but on a personal level reading this book was an immensely enjoyable experience and the information within the book provided for somewhat of an epiphany for myself so I consider it fitting that I look at "The God Delusion" for inspiration for some of the ideas that I would like to manifest into my own PIP.

If you aren't familiar with Richard Dawkins he is hailed one of the most influential Scientists of our time and in the God Delusion he pushes forwards a pretty compelling case of denouncing Religion with it's faulty logic and all the suffering it causes for a improbable God.

There is ALOT of information covered in this book and it's mostly in reference to religious beliefs on a world wide scale as it inspires one to consider what the world would be like without religion?. As discussed with Brooke in class today It's now a matter of working with some of these ideas and connecting them to a smaller group that will be more available for me to reach as part of my primary research.
